Dear .............................

The United States has had a military presence in Afghanistan since 2001. Now, many Afghan citizens think it's high time for America -- and the rest of the world -- to get out of their country.

In 2009, after President Hamid Karzai was re-elected, the U.S. and other nations accused him of fraud. In turn, Karzai said the U.S. was trying to interfere in the democratic process. And now that Karzai is stepping down, as he is constitutionally obligated to do, the danger of corruption in the next election is only going to increase.

If Karzai really has the best interests of the Afghan people at heart, he will do his best to ensure that the next president is elected justly. A group of Care2 members who call themselves the "Afghan Youth" started a petition with us to advocate for their rights. They write:

We urge you Mr. President to honestly support us in electing our next President through free and fair elections. We request you not to interfere in the election and to prevent all kinds of intervention in it either by foreigners or by internal elements including the on-duty government officials.

The people of Afghanistan deserve the right to honestly elect their new leaders. Will you join Afghan Youth and sign the petition demanding an equitable 2014 election?

Dear f..................,,

Just like other teens around the world, the "punks" in Indonesia like to put on concerts, dress in distinctive ways and hang out with their friends. They certainly don't mean any harm to anyone. Yet they continuously face persecution and oppression by local authorities.

In 2011, dozens of young men and women were rounded up at a show they'd staged for local orphans. They were taken to a police detainment center, where their heads were forcibly shaved and where they were trapped for ten days. Officials said it was "for their own good."

And the abuse didn't stop there. In April 2012, a homeless punk couple were forcibly caned. Though there have been fewer public crackdowns since then, a recent report by Vice TV found that the punks in Indonesia's Aceh province a re still frequently harassed, threatened and beaten.

No one should be punished for living a lifestyle that makes them happy and doesn't hurt anyone. Tell officials in Aceh to respect the punks' human rights and leave them in peace!
